One of Denmark's most experienced drug addiction treatment organizations, Kongens Ø, was able to celebrate its 25th anniversary in November 2019. The King's Island has as a treatment institution been on a long journey from Møn, over Arresøhøj, to now Munkerup in Dronningmølle in North Zealand. The trip has also included the establishment of the country's first permanent treatment offer for abuse and addiction in collaboration with the Prison and Probation Service and the Vridsløselille State Prison. That was in 1997. With the start of 2018, this treatment offering is now rooted in the new super prison at Falster, Storstrøm Prison. Kongens Ø has for many years been active participants in the development of concepts and strategies in the prevention and treatment of abuse and dependence in the Danish landscape of treatment institutions.
